PRICE GUIDE

How much does a hotel in Bogotá cost? Prices by area and season

Hotels in Bogotá cost the most in Zona T and Parque 93 and the least in the Airport and Fontibón area, with Teusaquillo and La Candelaria also at the lower end. Dates matter as much as the area: big events at Corferias and Movistar Arena and Colombian holiday weekends can push rates up.

Why this guide has no price list

Hotel rates in Bogotá move with the calendar: a quiet Sunday and a trade fair Tuesday can look like two different cities. A number printed in an article would be out of date within days, so we compare areas instead.

Each hotel page on this site shows the current rate for your dates in the booking box. Use this guide to decide where to look, then compare rates there.

Hotel prices in Bogotá by area

We looked at more than 2,500 places to stay in Bogotá and kept about 100 for our Shortlist. The table below orders the main areas by typical listed price, from the highest to the lowest, with the size and mix of each area.

The top of the range: Zona T and Parque 93

Zona T and Parque 93 sit almost level at the top of our price data. Zona T is the city's main nightlife and shopping area, and Parque 93, just to the north, is greener and more business-focused.

Casa Dann Carlton Hotel & SPA is a 5-star hotel about 0.8 km (0.5 miles) from Parque 93 as the crow flies. It has a guest rating of 8.9/10 from more than 2,000 reviews. NH Collection Bogota WTC Royal, also 5-star, is about 1.0 km from the park and has a guest rating of 8.6/10 from more than 1,000 reviews.

Outside the north, GHL Hotel Capital in Salitre is a 5-star hotel that lists a free airport shuttle, with a guest rating of 8.9/10 from more than 3,000 reviews. Tequendama Bogotá, a 5-star hotel downtown, also lists a free airport shuttle and has a guest rating of 8.9/10 from more than 3,000 reviews.

See all of them on our luxury hotels in Bogotá page, which also covers the 5-star options in Salitre and downtown.

The middle: Chapinero, Salitre, and Usaquén

Chapinero and Salitre share the upper-middle tier, for different reasons. Chapinero has the Zona G restaurants and many apartments, while Salitre has more than 170 hotels on the airport road, close to Corferias and the US Embassy.

Usaquén sits in the middle of the range, with a Sunday market and quieter streets. It has fewer hotels than Chapinero, so check availability early for weekend stays.

The lower end: La Candelaria, Teusaquillo, and the airport area

La Candelaria and the downtown area are among the lower-priced areas we cover. They are also the closest to the Gold Museum and the colonial streets. Teusaquillo, a residential area near Movistar Arena, sits at a similar level.

The Airport and Fontibón area has the lowest typical prices in our data. It suits a night before an early flight. Hotels there are about 7 to 12 km from Zona T and La Candelaria, so taxi rides add to the cost of sightseeing.

Lower-priced places also appear outside these three areas. ExpoStay Hotel Corferias Embajada Americana in Salitre has a guest rating of 8.8/10 from more than 2,000 reviews. Palermo Home Bogota & Art Gallery, a 3-star guesthouse in Teusaquillo, has a guest rating of 9.1/10 from more than 1,000 reviews.

Hostal R10 and Granada Hostel are in La Candelaria, and Bendito Hostels is in Teusaquillo. All five appear on our cheap hotels in Bogotá page, and the dorm options are on our hostels in Bogotá page.

What drives hotel prices up in Bogotá

Bogotá is a business city as much as a tourist city, so the calendar of events often matters more than the weather. Three things push rates up.

Trade fairs at Corferias

Corferias is Bogotá's main convention center, in Salitre near the US Embassy. Large trade fairs and the city's annual book fair draw big crowds, and hotels within 1 km tend to fill first.

If your trip overlaps a big fair, book early or stay in another area and ride in. Check the official Corferias calendar before you fix your dates, and see our hotels near Corferias.

Concerts at Movistar Arena and matches at El Campín

Movistar Arena hosts large concerts, and El Campín stadium is close by in Teusaquillo. On show nights, the nearest hotels can sell out early, even though Teusaquillo is one of the lower-priced areas we cover.

Hotel Arena Suites Movistar Arena is about 0.5 km from the arena, with a guest rating of 8.3/10 from more than 2,000 reviews. More options are on our hotels near Movistar Arena page.

Colombian holidays and long weekends

Colombia moves many public holidays to the following Monday, which creates a puente (a long weekend, literally "a bridge"). Many Bogotá residents tend to leave the city on those weekends, and the warmer towns outside Bogotá get busy.

Christmas, New Year, and Semana Santa (Holy Week, before Easter) follow a similar pattern. Inside the city, business hotels in Salitre and Parque 93 often price weekends differently from weekdays, so compare both if your dates are flexible.

The VAT exemption and the price you see

VAT in Colombia is called IVA (impuesto al valor agregado). When you compare two sites, check whether the rate shown includes IVA, because the same room can appear at two different prices for that reason alone.

Our guide to hotel rules in Colombia explains the passport and proof of entry that hotels ask for at check-in.

Hotel, apartment, or hostel

The type of stay shifts the price as much as the area. More than half of the places to stay we list in Parque 93, Chapinero, and La Candelaria are apartments. For families or longer stays, they can work out cheaper per person.

Hostels sit at the lower end and are concentrated in La Candelaria, which has 17 of them. Our guide on choosing between a hotel, apartment, or hostel covers the trade-offs, and our apartments in Bogotá page lists the options.

How to compare rates for your dates

  • Compare the same dates. A rate for a Tuesday during a trade fair tells you little about a quiet Saturday.
  • Check what the rate includes. Breakfast, IVA, and an airport shuttle can each change the real cost of a night.
  • Count your rides. A lower rate far from where you'll spend your days can cost more once taxis are added. Traffic can double journey times at rush hour.
  • Look at the cancellation terms. A flexible rate costs a little more but protects you if an event changes your plans.
  • Read the guest rating with the review count. A score of 9.0/10 from more than 1,000 reviews says more than the same score from a handful.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest area to stay in Bogotá?

Airport and Fontibón has the lowest typical prices in our data, followed by Teusaquillo and La Candelaria. For sightseeing on foot, La Candelaria is the lower-priced area closest to the museums.

Which area of Bogotá has the most expensive hotels?

Zona T and Parque 93. The two areas are almost level at the top of our price data, followed by Chapinero and Salitre.

Do hotel prices in Bogotá go up during concerts and trade fairs?

Yes, they can. Big trade fairs at Corferias and concerts at Movistar Arena fill nearby hotels, and rates in Salitre and Teusaquillo tend to react first. Book early once your dates are fixed.

Why doesn't this guide list prices in dollars?

Two reasons: rates in Bogotá change daily with events and demand, and a fixed number in an article goes out of date fast. Each hotel page shows the current rate for your dates instead.
