ABOUT US

About Best Bogotá Hotels

Best Bogotá Hotels is an English-language shortlist of places to stay in Bogotá for first-time international visitors. We looked at more than 2,500 places to stay in the city and are checking about 100 of them for our Shortlist 2027.

Why this site exists

Search "hotels in Bogotá" and you get more than 2,500 options and no answers. We looked at all of them, and we are narrowing them down to about 100 for the Shortlist 2027. That list is being checked now.

Then we check five things that matter here and nowhere else:

  • Is the street fine at 9pm?
  • Is the room warm at about 2,600 meters (8,500 feet)?
  • Will a nightclub keep you up?
  • How long is the drive to El Dorado at rush hour?
  • What do you pay as a foreign tourist once the 19% VAT comes off?

No paid placements. If a hotel slips, it leaves the list.

Our promise fits in five words: Bogotá's best, honestly checked. The rest of this page explains what that means in practice, and where we are today.

The Bogotá Five

The five questions above are our signature checks. We call them the Bogotá Five: Safe Street, Warm Room, Quiet Night, Airport Minutes, and Tax-Free Price. You will see them as a bar of five icons on every hotel page and on every hotel card in our lists.

Booking sites rarely answer these questions per hotel. Heating, for example, almost never appears in hotel listings, yet Bogotá nights get cold. That gap is the reason the Bogotá Five exist.

A check only turns green once we have confirmed it, with a date. Until then, it shows gray with the words "Not yet checked". We never color a check green because of the area, the star rating, or the hotel chain. The full method is on how we choose hotels in Bogotá.

Curated, not comprehensive

We would rather give you 100 good choices than 2,500 options. That is why the word "Best" on this site is reserved for places on the Shortlist. Every other place we list gets an honest description, but not that label.

The Shortlist is updated once a year. When a place drops off, we say so in the yearly update under "left the list, and why". A list that only ever grows is not a selection.

Every budget deserves a best

A well-run hostel in La Candelaria can be as good a choice as a 5-star hotel in Parque 93. It just serves a different traveler. So the Shortlist has categories by budget and type, not only by price level.

The Shortlist 2027 has categories for luxury, boutique, value, hostels, and aparthotels, plus layovers near El Dorado and stays near the US Embassy. Until it is published, you can browse luxury and 5-star hotels or cheap hotels in Bogotá based on our data.

No paid placements

No hotel pays to be listed, and no hotel can pay to move up. When you book through a link on this site, we may earn a commission from Booking.com, at no extra cost to you. That commission never decides which places we include or the order we show them in.

The details are on our affiliate disclosure page. We do not take bookings or payments ourselves.

Where we are today

We want to be precise about our own status. Right now, hotel pages are marked "Data-checked October 2026". That means the facts on them, such as guest ratings, review counts, facilities, and straight-line distances, come from our booking partners and are updated regularly.

It also means the Bogotá Five are not yet confirmed for those hotels, so the bar shows gray. As we confirm checks with hotels, pages move to "Checked" with a month and year. A page will only say "Visited" after a real visit, with the date and the name of the person who went.

Our sister sites

This site is written in US English for international visitors. If you are a Colombian traveler, or you prefer to read in Spanish, our sister site hoteles-bogota.com covers hotels in Bogotá for travelers from within Colombia. For monthly apartment rentals, the Spanish-language arriendo-apartamento-bogota.com is the better fit.

The sites share basic facts, but each has its own audience, language, and selection.

Frequently asked questions

Is Best Bogotá Hotels a booking site?

No. We are an editorial site. When you click a hotel link, you book on Booking.com, which handles your reservation and payment.

Can a hotel pay to be on the Shortlist?

No. No hotel pays to be listed, and commission plays no part in which places we include or the order we show them in.

Have you visited every hotel on the site?

No. Pages currently show Data-checked October 2026. A page only says Visited after a real visit, with the date.

Is there a Spanish version of the site?

No. This site is in English only. Our sister site hoteles-bogota.com is written in Spanish for Colombian travelers, with its own selection and focus.
