The short answer: airport hotel or city
El Dorado is Bogotá's international airport, west of the center along Avenida El Dorado (Calle 26). The hotels closest to it are in the Airport and Fontibón area, where we list more than 340 places to stay and more than 100 hotels.
For an overnight connection, a hotel about 2 to 5 km (1 to 3 miles) from the terminal as the crow flies keeps the morning simple. For a full day between flights, a trip into the city is possible, but plan it around traffic rather than distance.
Can you leave the airport?
If you want to sleep in a hotel or see the city, you need to enter Colombia. That means passing immigration and customs on the way out, and check-in and security again on the way back.
Many nationalities, including U.S. citizens, can enter Colombia as tourists without a visa, but rules differ by passport. Check the current entry rules on the Migración Colombia website before you travel.
Ask your airline whether your checked bags go through to your final destination or need to be collected in Bogotá. If you collect them, you'll carry them to the hotel and check them in again the next day.
Getting from El Dorado into the city
You have three practical options from the arrivals area. Pick one before you land, so you are not deciding with luggage in hand.
- Hotel shuttle. Several airport hotels list a shuttle. Message the hotel with your flight number and confirm where the driver will meet you.
- Official taxi rank. Yellow taxis wait at the official rank outside arrivals. Follow the signs and join the line rather than accepting offers inside the terminal.
- Ride-hailing app. Apps are widely used in Bogotá. Pickup points at the airport can change, so follow the instructions in the app and match the plate before you get in.
Withdraw some Colombian pesos (COP) from a cash machine in the terminal for small costs, and keep a card for larger ones.
